enable bengali fonts

Rendering Bengali Fonts is necessary to read websites that have content in that script – like Ananda Bazar Patrika etc. The example website uses an out-dated rendering system, and provides a support page for Windows/ IE platform. For Linux/ Firefox platforms, here are the steps:

  1. Download and install Padma Firefox – a Firefox addon for rendering Indic Languages.
  2. If the Linux distribution does not have a bengali unicode font, install one from here. Before that, you can check if your system has such a font.
  3. Open a terminal and type
MOZ_ENABLE_PANGO=1 firefox

This will restart Firefox. Now the Bengali Fonts will be rendered in sites where they are used.
